Casa Negra in Buenos Aires by Andres Remy Architects | Interior Design, Decorating, Furniture, Architecture, Home & House Design Magazine

This beautiful house – Casa Negra or “the Black House”- comes from Andres Remy Architects and is located at a 30 km distance from Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a spectacular natural environment. In taking on this project, the team of architects had to deal with some of the circumstances of the local setting. First of all, they had full responsibility and full freedom in creating the plans for the house. Second off, they had to make it so they would take advantage of the landscapes around the area. Situated next to a beautiful lake, the views had the potential of being unbeatable and this was one of the major strengths that the team based their work on. From the exterior, the building looks amazing and is really “worth” its name. The interiors are wide and spacious. – Pictures by Alejandro Peral

Amazing Gas Station Design from Kanner Architects | Interior Design, Decorating, Furniture, Architecture, Home & House Design Magazine

A mix of form and function, the United Oil Gas Station from Kanner Architects is located in Los Angeles, California and is actually a mini-market, a 12-pump gas station, and a car wash. The imposing structure dominates the streets around it and will probably become a center of attraction for the near-by citizens. Its exterior features an interesting metal line, which is the roof of the small commercial place, but also comes in contact with the car wash. Another structure also has a double role, one as a platform for the cars getting in the gas station and the other as an overall design improvement. All in all, not many people would mind making a refuel in a gas-station like this.

La Roche Chair, A Creative and Unusual Design | Interior Design, Decorating, Furniture, Architecture, Home & House Design Magazine

From Milla Rezanova, comes the new “La Roche Chair” concept, with a shape that has the ability of making you stop for a minute and analyse it in detail. Sustained mostly by its outer “cloak”, the chair almost seems like it’s floating, making it hard for one to imagine it is actually stable and connected to the ground. Its look is not only interesting from the front, but no matter how you place it, there is something original to be discovered, whether it is a special angle, a line or just the mix of colours. With a refined elegance, it suits well in a classic, “black and white” interior, but also in a rebel one, personalizing the place, because, overall, it seems to have an identity of its own.

The YAS Hotel and the World's Largest LED Project is Complete > CONTEMPORIST

The YAS Hotel in Abu Dhabi was recently completed, and its curvilinear grid-shell which is covered with over 5,300 diamond-shaped steel panels, containing nearly 5000 LED fixtures is being announced as the world’s largest LED project controlled through RDM (Remote Device Management).

New York based lighting designers Arup Lighting worked with Germany based e:cue lighting control to create lighting effects such as color-changing light sequences, and to play customized three dimensional low-resolution video content, on the grid-shell.

The building was designed by Asymptote Architecture, we previously featured the Yas Hotel back in May, click here to read that post.

Aluminium Chair by Tobias Labarque > CONTEMPORIST

Posted by Dave on December 1st, 2009

Belgian architect Tobias Labarque has created an aluminium chair.

Tobias says:

Cantilever-type chair made from a single piece of perforated aluminium plate. there are no joints, no connections, no welding, no details, … just a (meticulously) folded plate.
The chair is stackable and is fit for both indoor and outdoor use.
It looks quite aggressive, but sits very comfortable.
